The context here is simplifying design, AESTHETICS (16) and KISS
(38).
How does one separate items of contents visually without cluttering the page and taking away its aesthetic appeal?
Therefore
Avoid wasting space by using graphics and lines to separate content on pages that need to display different
types of information. Experiment to see if using white space to separate page area works for your site and type
of content.
Now get rid of any BROKEN BUTTONS (59) and use MAGIC MARGINS (60).

Nielsen (2000)
The general principle is that one should try removing design elements to see if the site works as well without
them. Lines separating clickable text often waste valuable screen space and make automatic sizing to fit the user’s
screen more tricky. Horizontal lines often make people think they’ve reached the end of a page.
Using SHORT TEXTS (44) helps to enable this strategy.
