I have several vices that I won't describe on this
page, but they all seem to derive from gregariousness.
I also love what I do for a living, which is why writing
about it is not a chore. But I also like to read about
and pontificate on matters not to do with computing.
I'm intererested in everything -- with the exception
of competitive sports of all kinds, which always seem
both pointless and tedious. Oh, and give me a radio
rather than a TV any day. After years of erosion of
our basic democratic rights, Radio 3 must by
now be the only good reason for living in Britain.
I
have practised Chinese martial arts (intermittently)
for the last 27 years and still enjoy that greatly.
Styles (if you're interested) included, in roughly
chronological order: Wu Shu Kwan, Sam'Tu Dang, Wu
Tan Tai Chi Quan, Pak Mei, Shaolin, Wing Chun, Yang
Tai Chi Quan.
For
the last year I've been fanatically beating the Bodhran
(spoons and bones too) and, less successfully, renewing
my acquaintance with the tin whistle and the washboard.
This gives me a good excuse to indulge in one of those
vices that I didn't mention. So if you like 'diddley-diddely
music', come and hear us play most Sundays at The
Lark in the Park, Copenhagen Street, London N1 (2pm
start).
I
like cooking too, and playing Mornington Crescent
(especially with people that don't know the rules).
Of course, in the Patterns movement we play Composite!
Best of all I like learning
about something new!
